Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a CWG Licensed Architect, the Architect-in-Training assists with plans, designs and/or facilitating the execution of new buildings or structures, building expansions or renovations in accordance with client interests, needs, desires, and financial resources. This position is designed to add to the incumbent’s preparation for board licensure in the State of Montana.

Here's a sampling of what you will do:

  • Under the supervision of a licensed Architect, engage with clients to determine functional or spatial requirements, the approximate budget, timetable, and potential interests in future expansion.
  • Assess clients’ materials, styles, colors, and other preferences.
  • Discuss priorities with clients; for example, needs v. desires.
  • Prepare preliminary sketches of options to help clients define their priorities and vision.
  • Assist the project Architect to prepare and present designs, specifications, estimated costs, and a proposed construction schedule.
  • Research and recommend detailed plans that integrate engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations.
  • Modify new or existing plans as requested.
  • Produce layouts of structural architectural projects that include aesthetic representations of the structure and/or details for its construction.
  • Prepare scale drawings or three-dimensional and interactive representations of designs using computer-assisted design software.
  • Attend client meetings with the project Architect to select and obtain construction contracts.
  • Assist with building contractor contract document preparation under the guidance of the supervising Architect.
  • Engage in activities and continuing education that support licensure.
  • Cooperate with CWG staff and principals to accomplish project objectives and support a culture of quality and innovation.
  • May gather information related to projects’ environmental sustainability or operational efficacy.

Pay range upon hire:

$21.88 - $22.97 / hour DOE.
